Club mourns death of Severiano Ballesteros

FC Barcelona has expressed its sympathy, following the death of golf star and Barça fan Severiano Ballesteros, who passed away this morning as a result of a brain tumour at the age of 54 in Pedreña, Cantabrica.

One of golf’s all time greats, Severiano Ballesteros, died as a result of cerebral cancer, which he had been fighting for the last two and a half years. Seve won three Masters, three British Opens and was part of the wining team on the Ryder Cup four times. He was also awarded the Príncepe d’Astúries prize. 

Barça fan 
Severiano Ballesteros was also a big Barça fan in 1999 he took part in a curious show as part of the “No to Drugs” game, hitting a golf ball from one goal to the other twice and beating ex-keeper Andoni Zubizarreta on both occasions.

Club President Sandro Rosell declared: “this is news which saddens us all. We’ve lost a human being and one of the great figures of sport. We Barça fans feel it even more keenly because Severiano Ballesteros was an illustrious fan and an ambassador for our Club all over the world”. 

The Club will observe a minute’s silence in memory of Severiano Ballesteros in all the games its various teams are taking part in this weekend.
