The draw in Seville on Sunday was Barça’s 26th La Liga game on the run without defeat, which equalled the Club record that had stood since the 1973/74 season.
The team might have failed to take all three points at the Ramon Sánchez Pizjuán, but the draw meant that they continue to re-write the history books, clocking up an astonishing 26 game unbeaten run to match the Club record set in the 73/74 season under Rinus Michels.
73/74 run ended in la Liga title
That run helped the team of Cruyff, Rexach, Asensi, Sotil and co. to take the Club’s ninth league title. It started following a goalless draw with Madrid in week six and lasted through to week 32 when they went down 2-0 to Athletic Bilbao, twenty six games later.
Guardiola’s team look to go one better
Pep Guardiola’s team equalled that great run on Sunday with the draw in Seville and next weekend they have the chance to better it when they take on Getafe at the Nou Camp. The run started after their shock defeat to Hercules in week two and if they avoid defeat against Getafe they will be on their way to equalling the league’s overall record of 32 unbeaten games held by Real Sociedad.
